Property Tax / Rent Rebate Program Applications Available at Sen. Pileggi's District Offices

Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) announced today that applications for this year's Property Tax / Rent Rebate Program are now available in his Media, Chester and West Grove district offices. He encouraged constituents to contact his district offices to schedule an appointment if they need assistance completing the application.

The Pennsylvania Property Tax / Rent Rebate program provides property tax relief or rent assistance for eligible Pennsylvanians.

"This program was expanded recently, and many residents might be unaware that they could qualify for assistance," Pileggi said. "I encourage my constituents to look into the program, and visit or call one of my district offices if they have any questions."

In 2006, the legislature expanded the program to make more Pennsylvania residents eligible and to increase the amount of available rebates. Under the expanded program, a homeowner or renter can receive a rebate of up to $650.

Eligible residents are those 65 or older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and those 18 or older who are disabled. Annual household income may not exceed $35,000, although only half of any Social Security income and railroad retirement benefits count towards that calculation.

Residents who received a property tax or rent rebate last year should automatically receive a renewal application form in the mail. Those forms have a unique bar code that allows the Department of Revenue to process them more quickly.

Applications for the Property Tax / Rent Rebate Program are due June 30, 2008. Rebate checks will be mailed beginning July 1.
