Senator Pileggi's Legislation to Add Political Robo-Calls to Do-Not-Call List Approved by Committee

Legislation introduced by Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) to give Pennsylvanians the ability to eliminate political robo-calls from their homes was approved today by the Senate State Government Committee.

"Automated phone calls are always a nuisance," Sen. Pileggi said. "But the impact is amplified many times over during election seasons, when people can receive dozens of political robo-calls over the course of just a week or two."

Senate Bill 820, as amended by the committee, would allow Pennsylvania residents to opt out of political robo-calls in the same way that they can opt out of telemarketing calls, by signing up for the state's Do-Not-Call List.

"I am optimistic that this legislation can be enacted in time to provide relief from political robo-calls during this April's primary election," said Sen. Pileggi.

Senate Bill 820 will be referred to the Senate Appropriations for a fiscal note before the full Senate can vote on the proposal.
