Senator Pileggi Announces $750,000 Grant for University Crossing Revitalization Project

86,000 square feet of commercial, residential development off Widener U. campus.

State Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) today announced that a $750,000 grant application for the University Crossing development, an 86,000-square-foot revitalization project near Widener University, has been approved by the state.

A commitment letter for the grant has been sent to the Chester Economic Development Authority by the Department of Community and Economic Development.

"This project will bring development and job opportunities to an underutilized section of Chester City, incorporating some innovative environmental designs and building on the existing infrastructure," said Sen. Pileggi. "Projects like University Crossing help solidify the city's economic base."

The $25 million dollar University Crossing project will be the first major, privately developed mixed-use development in Chester City in recent memory. The 86,000 square feet will include 60 residential units and a 60-room hotel, as well as 13,000 square feet of retail/office space, on four lots adjacent to the university.

The project is designed to incorporate an array of energy conservation and environmental benefits and it will be LEED Certified. The grant will be funded from Pennsylvania's Growing Greener program. The Chester Economic Development Authority will administer the funds.
