FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pileggi Announces Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program Deadline Extended to End of the YearThe deadline to apply for the Property/Tax Rent Rebate program has been extended from June 30 to December 31, 2007, according to Senator Dominic Pileggi. Senator Pileggi urges eligible residents to apply for the program. Last year, the Pennsylvania legislature expanded the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program to make more Pennsylvania residents eligible and increase the rebate that each resident could receive. Under the new program, eligible residents can receive a rebate of up to $650 on property taxes or rent paid in the previous year. Previously the maximum rebate a resident could receive was $500. To qualify for the program, claimants must satisfy one of the following:
Annual household income may not exceed $35,000. Only 50% of Social Security and Railroad Retirement benefits count towards that calculation. Rebates for more than 460,000 applicants are being prepared for distribution on July 1, as specified by law. After June 30, rebates will be distributed as the claims are received and approved. Recipients can have their rebates directly deposited into their checking or savings account. Property Tax/Rent Rebate claim forms and additional information are available online through the state Revenue Department's Web site, www.revenue.state.pa.us or by calling 1-888-222-9190. Constituents may also call or visit any of Senator Pileggi's district offices for additional help. Senator Pileggi has three district offices:
