Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program Applications Available at
Sen. Pileggi's District Offices
HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA -
Senator Dominic Pileggi (R-9) announces that applications for the Property
Tax/Rent Rebate Program are now available in his Media, Chester, and West Grove
district offices.
Last year, the Pennsylvania legislature expanded the Property Tax/Rent Rebate
program to make more Pennsylvania residents eligible and increase the rebate
that each resident could receive. Under the new program, eligible residents can
receive a rebate of up to $650 on property taxes or rent paid in the previous
year. Previously the maximum rebate a resident could receive was $500.
To qualify for the program, claimants must satisfy one of the following:
- 65 years of age or older;
- 50 years of age or older and widowed; or
- 18 years of age or older and permanently disabled.
Annual household income may not exceed $35,000. Only 50% of Social Security
and Railroad Retirement benefits count towards that calculation.
Residents who received a property tax or rent rebate last year will
automatically receive a renewal application form in the mail. Those forms have
a unique bar coding that allows the Revenue Department to process them more
quickly.
The application for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is due June 30,
2007. Checks will be mailed beginning July 1.
"With the expansion of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, there will be a
number of senior citizens who will now be eligible," Pileggi said. "I
encourage all eligible residents to look into the program, and visit or call one
of my district offices and complete a form," Pileggi said.
