FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pileggi Announces Deadline Extension for Property Tax/Rent Rebate ProgramHarrisburg, Pennsylvania The deadline to apply for the 2005 Property/Tax Rent Rebate program has been extended from June 30 to December 31, 2006, according to Senator Dominic Pileggi (R-9) who urged eligible residents to apply for the program. This program benefits all eligible Pennsylvanians aged 65 or older, widows and widowers aged 50 or older, and those 18 or older who are disabled. Participants can receive a rebate of up to $500 based on their property taxes or rent paid during the previous year. "The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is one of four programs supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery," Pileggi said. "Each year this program helps hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania residents deal with the burden of rising property taxes. I would encourage anyone who is eligible but has not signed up to take advantage of the extended deadline and complete an application at their earliest convenience." To qualify, annual household eligibility income must not exceed $15,000, excluding 50 percent of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Railroad Retirement Tier 1 benefits. Pileggi said Property Tax/Rent Rebate claim forms and additional information are available online through the state Revenue Department's Web site, www.revenue.state.pa.us or by calling his office at 1-888-984-3478.
