FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 16th through 22nd Is "Weed and Seed Week" in PennsylvaniaHarrisburg, Pennsylvania On April 5, 2006, the Pennsylvania Senate unanimously adopted Senate Resolution 247, sponsored by Senator Dominic Pileggi (R-9), designating the week of April 16 through 22, 2006, as "Weed and Seed Week" across the Commonwealth. "Weed and Seed" is a community-based strategy sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, with the participation of local law enforcement organizations. The program seeks to revitalize communities, thereby giving hope to residents of distressed and high crime neighborhoods. "'Weed and Seed Week' has proven to be an important program to Pennsylvania and across the country," explained Pileggi. "The dual approach of weeding out violent criminals and drug abusers with the efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors, and the seeding of human services through community-based and public agencies is progressive and has produced results. It is appropriate that we recognize the program and renew our efforts to keep our communities drug-free."
