August 16, 2006 –
Senator Dominic Pileggi made it possible for about 150
school students from the City of Chester to participate in
the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation’s on-site Education
Program.
Earlier this year, the Pennsylvania Historical and
Museum Commission provided a grant to the Plantation. A
portion of the grant was earmarked to pay for area school
students to visit the Plantation who otherwise might not
have had the opportunity.
Senator Pileggi suggested field trips to the Plantation
for students participating in the City of Chester’s Summer
Day Camp Program. As a result, elementary and middle
school students from Chester were able to experience what
life on a working farm in southeastern Pennsylvania during
the colonial period.
On Wednesday, August 16, Senator Pileggi visited the
plantation. He talked with students visiting the
Plantation that day and saw how the Plantation’s Education
Program supplements and reinforced colonial history
covered in the classroom.
The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation is a living history
site located on the grounds of Ridley Creek State Park in
Delaware County. It hosts about ten thousand students
each year from throughout southeastern Pennsylvania and
neighboring states. The Plantation’s on-site Educational
Program correlates with the Pennsylvania State Academic
Standard.
